The Battle Against Buckthorn and Its Buddies
Do you want some practical tips on how to rid your property of invasive plant species such as buckthorn, honeysuckle, and garlic mustard? Join Wild Ones Lake-To-Prairie for an evening with Sarah Michehl, Community Ecologist with The Land Conservancy of McHenry County. She will share practical information on how to rid your property of these and other invasive plant species. She will discuss strategies for controlling these non-native bullies plus she’ll recommend some great native plant replacements.
Invasive plants are a major threat to the health and diversity of our native wildlife. Introduced from faraway lands and lacking natural predators, buckthorn and other non-native species have spread into woodlands, prairies and wetlands, disrupting or degrading diversity that can change the function of entire ecosystems. Many of these aggressive non-natives find their way into our yards, spreading into gardens and overrunning the landscape. Removing these noxious plants can be frustrating and time consuming, especially the ones that keep coming back year after year.
This is an in-person presentation or join via Zoom on August 6 from 7pm-8pm.
