Staying Safe in the Woods: Ticks. Tick-borne Diseases
 and Preventive  Measures

Wild Ones Lake-to-Prairie presents a free online talk about avoiding ticks and tick-borne diseases. On January 6, 2026 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm Central Time.

Ticks are parasitic arachnids that feed on blood. They’re usually found in wooded or grassy areas and can carry pathogens that cause illnesses. Tick borne diseases are a risk for anyone working in or enjoying the outdoors. Being safe requires proactive measures against ticks. Your best defense involves a multi-layered approach of awareness.

This presentation will cover the tick species commonly found in Illinois, tick-borne diseases and their life cycle, tick habitat preferences, and measures you can take to reduce the risk of tick bites and tick-borne diseases.
