Climate Coach Program

Are you interested in helping Highland Park residents reduce their carbon emissions to help mitigate the effects of climate change?

Have you made upgrades to your home, yard, or lifestyle to reduce your environmental impact?

Consider sharing your expertise as a part of Go Green Highland Park’s new Climate Coach program! Through this program, presented in partnership with the City of Highland Park Sustainability Advisory Group, volunteer Climate Coaches will share their experience and expertise in different areas. This is inspired by a similar program started in Oak Park. Example topics include: electrifying your home, planting native gardens, installing solar energy or heat pumps, purchasing an electric vehicle, insulating drafty homes and more.

Interested in becoming a Climate Coach? Please sign up using this form by April 15, 2025, and a member of Go Green will follow up with you.  You are not expected to be an expert, just to share your knowledge and help guide community members in the right direction.
Starting in May, we will open the program to “learners” who will be matched with coaches to learn more about their topics of interest. We’re hoping this will be a helpful way to educate and reduce our collective contribution to climate change.

Thursday, April 24, 1:30-3:00 pm

Join us during Earth Week to discuss A Sand County Almanac, by Aldo Leopold. The book, “achieved prominence around the first Earth Day in 1970 and has been reborn for Earth Day 50. Cards, letters and kids' drawings for Brad Schneider needed by April 23!The local chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby/Greater Highland Park/Deerfield/Northbrook is collecting cards, letters and kids' drawings to take to a brief meeting with Representative Brad Schneider at the end of April. We would greatly appreciate postcards, cards, or letters from constituents. These could either simply thank him for his environmental work, or could ask him to protect climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act (crucial right now as budget reconciliation is ongoing), or urge him to address renewable energy permitting reform. Kids' drawings could be titled, "This is my favorite outdoor space" or "This is my favorite place on our planet" or "This is what I love most on our planet" followed by "Please help protect it." Please sign names and addresses to letters and cards so Rep. Schneider will see that you are a constituent.Francesca Kelly, a GGHP member and co-chair of the local CCL chapter, has a bin on her porch at 871 Pleasant Avenue where you may drop off your letters, cards and drawings through April 23. She is also happy to pick up letters, cards and drawings from you; just email her at francescakelly9@gmail.com. Let's take a big sack of cards, letters and drawings to let Brad Schneider know that his constituents care about climate change and protecting our planet! ... See MoreSee Less
